How often should your boiler be serviced?
If you're already a homeowner then you'll already know the importance of getting your boiler serviced. For those who don't know or are potentially becoming homeowners then once a year or every 12m your boiler should undergo a service. Manufacturers recommend boilers to be serviced regularly to keep up with their warranty terms & conditions, and every 3-5 years burner seals/gaskets should be replaced.
When should I get my boiler serviced?
Now you’re aware of frequency, here's when you should get your boiler serviced;
If it's been 12m since the last service - Keep track and record boiler services. Your Registered engineer should do one of the following or both, Leave paperwork (safety certificate of service) and/or fill out the boiler benchmark book (installation booklet back page).
You have recently moved property - if you've moved property, it's recommended if it hasn't been done before purchase, that you get the boiler serviced upon moving.
Summertime Service - Most engineers recommend servicing the boiler in the summer. This is due to the fact boilers suffer a lot of heavy use during the winter months and if serviced during the summer then faults can be picked up and rectified before winter sets in. This prevents unnecessary cold spells in the home.
Registered Engineers
Only use registered engineers to undergo the servicing of your boiler. Use a Gas Safe (corgi) engineer for gas boilers, and OFTEC (Oil Firing Technical Association) registered engineers for Oil boilers.
